The Association will receive $169,500 over two years for the Children's Sensory Garden which is being designed for people of all ages and abilities as a place to experi- ence the environment through touch, look, smell, taste and hearing. The gardens, which are appearing in more communities, are designed to be therapeutic, inclusive and diverse for people with special needs. The Norval garden will be set within the Lucy Maud Montgomery Garden to attract both local residents and visitors alike. It can also be used as an edu- cational tool. "The vision of the Children's Garden of the senses is to create a garden that brings together our heritage, healing and connec- tion to an inclusive community both locally, nationally and internationally," said Kathy Gastle, Norval Community Association President. "I want to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for approving this grant for the Norval Community Association," said Wel- lington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott. "By remembering Lucy Maud Montgomery at Norval Park, we are inspired by a significant figure in Canada's literacy history, and her involvement in our community." Funds will be used over the next two years to buy plants and materials for the sensory garden, to help with the salary for an Education Coordinator and help with marketing costs as well. Also receiving a Trillium grant is the 676 Lorne Scots Royal Canadian Army Cadets (Georgetown). That organization will re- ceive $31,300 to purchase cross country skis, snowshoes and bicycles that will allow cadets to participate in more recreational ac- tivities and programs that promote healthy living and develop responsible leadership. Halton Multicultural Council will receive $150,000 over two years to support a collab- orative capacity-building initiative in Peel and Halton focused on resource develop- ment. Six community-based organizations will work with a consulting team to develop and strengthen their respective organiza- tion's infrastructure and capacity to be more financially sustainable. Halton County Radial Railway is getting $35,700 to upgrade computer equipment at the museum to make it easier for volunteers to preserve unique artifacts and increase the ability of the museum located in Milton, just west of Acton, to educate the public about Ontario's transportation history.
