Georgetown's favourite Veterinary Services 3 Years in a Row High school students from the Halton and Peel regions have been volunteering their time this summer on enhancement projects for Credit Valley Conservation's Youth Corps at the Willow Park Ecology Centre in Norval. This group of students from Brampton (from left) Manveer Brar, Muskan Sethi, Atiya Iqbal and Matanhi Rajasckara were helping to build an Ojibwe medicine wheel garden. Known as Gitigaan Mashkiki in Ojibwe, the gardens serve as a reminder that all things are con- nected and are used by aboriginals for healing, spiritual rituals, prayer, meditation, and as visual reminders of higher principles. Other new features include a Roadside Pollinator Patch established with help from the Girl Guides and the Weather Network Team Building event. The projects at the Centre are made possible through a well- coordinated 7-Program System for ecological restoration and wildlife conservation, that also offers formal and recreational education opportunities. The Volunteers Grow Willow Park Program will be celebrat- ed on Sunday, Sept.14 between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. during a fun day of activities and special events. You are invited to come to Willow Park to honour and thank our vital and inspiring volunteer leaders and helpers of all ages, and view our new features. This year the Centre located at the confluence of the Credit River and Silver Creek in Norval, celebrates 16 years of volunteer-run environmental restoration projects, and recre- ation and education programs (Kindergarten to Grade 6). The Volunteers' Rock event includes: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. native-themed crafts followed by a monthly healing Drum Cir- cle at 1 p.m. All are welcome . At 2 p.m. Volunteers' Rock, at the Pavilion, celebrates WPEC's volunteers. Brief pre- sentations about Willow Park's achievements, the Town and Credit Valley Conservation partnerships and the education programs through the eyes of a local school teacher will help acknowledge volunteers' suc- cesses. Throughout the afternoon Willow Park will host an Eco- Quest run especially to allow volunteers to enjoy the nature space they helped make be able to sustain both wildlife and hu- man activity. Volunteers 'Rock' Willow Park Ecology Centre Mushroom Fest on Sept. 20 Rockwood will host Ontar- io's only mushroom festival on Saturday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will celebrate the agricultural heritage of the Guelph-Eramosa and north Halton regions. The Festival will take place on the green and inside St. John's Anglican Church in the heart of Rock- wood. Fun for all ages.
