Halton Hills residents will have a lot of candidates to choose from in the upcoming municipal election with 38 of them vying for 15 elected positions. Nominations closed for the Oct. 27 elec- tion at 2 p.m. Friday and there are races for every post except one. Wards 1/2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville is the only acclaimed candidate. The Acton resident didn't have a challenger in the 2010 election. The incumbents are back in every coun- cil race except for Ward 2-- Joan Robson, who has been a ward councillor since 2000, has chosen to retire. Mayor Rick Bonnette, who was acclaimed last elec- tion, is being chal- lenged this time around by Sally Stull. Town Council Ward 3 is the most crowd- ed field with six candidates vying for the two posts, and in Ward 1 there are five people running for the two council spots. Regional Chair Gary Carr has three chal- lengers and the local races for Halton school board trustees have two candidates each. See CANDIDATES, pg. 15 Campaign begins for 38 candidates
