The funds will go towards the re- cently opened emergency and diagnos- tic department at Georgetown Hospital as part of its Healthcare Close to Home Campaign, which is now just $105,000 short of reaching its fundraising goal of $6.75 million. The South Georgetown Landowners' Group consists of a number of builders from southwestern Ontario, such as Na- tional Homes, Lakeview Homes, Town- wood Homes, The Vogue Development Group and Guscon Enterprises. "We always like to support commu- nity benefits in the places we work in across the GTA," said Jason Pantalone, director of land acquisitions and devel- opment for National Homes. "We look at it as being a partner with those communities and we want to give back to them. We've owned land (in Georgetown South) for seven years and as the community grows, we hope we can take part in that as well, as long as it's controlled, has the right trails and parks and community services that help keep the community vibrant." There is no projected start date for construction on the 2,000-acre parcel of land located south of 10 Sideroad be- tween Ninth Line and Trafalgar Rd. Ken McDermot, chair of the Hospital Foundation, said the fundraising finish line is in sight, which has intensified the resolve of board members. When Mc- Dermot took over as board chair a cou- ple of years ago, he purchased bottles of an Italian sparkling wine called Prosecco that were only to be uncorked when the $6.75-million mark was reached. "When you're near the end of the cam- paign and you're only $200,000 away from reaching the goal, that last chunk is always the toughest because you're watching it every day," he said. "It's a symbolic thing and nobody's popping their bottles until we get to zero." The Georgetown Hospital Foundation was presented with a cheque worth $100,000 from the South Georgetown Landowners last week.
