Grade 9 student Kristen Giles won the 36-hole girls' event after shooting an 80 on Tuesday, which combined with an 87 at last week's opening round at the Wyl- dewood course, was good enough for a seven-stroke cushion over the second- place finisher. Christ the King's Jennifer Knox placed third. GDHS's Gray Potter fired a 67 at Hid- den Lake Tuesday, which was the best individual round at the HSSAA event in 25 years, but had to settle for second spot due to an 81 shot at Wyldewood last week. CtK's Thomas Hunt fired a 72 to finish 11th overall. Giles qualified for the OFSAA Girls' Golf Festival, to be held Oct. 15-16 at the Kingsville Golf & Country Club, while Potter and Hunt move on to the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference champi- onship on Tuesday at the Beverley Golf & Country Club in Copetown. FOOTBALL: Alex Leduc rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Mitch Spence connected with receiver Lucas Fritz for two more major scores as the Georgetown Rebels downed the Bishop Reding Royals 36-7 in Milton Friday in a Halton Secondary School Athletic As- sociation Tier II junior football matchup. The 2-0 Rebels were bolstered by time- ly interceptions from Nick Samis and Marcus Watson to build the comfortable lead. Kicker Kyle Horak contributed four converts and a two-point safety. GDHS's juniors play host to the 1-1 Abbey Park Eagles Thursday at Kiwanis Field beginning at 2:30 p.m. which will be followed by three straight road games. Also last Friday in Milton, George- town's seniors held an 8-0 lead over the Royals for a large part of the contest before the Royals scored two majors to come away with a 14-8 win, evening the Rebels record at 1-1 in the Tier II divi- sion.
