She was born in the stone house by the train tracks on Mil l Street, was raised in Ac ton and didn' t st ray to far f rom Halton Hills. Predeceased by her mom (Jane) and dad (James), brother Stan ( w i f e D o r o t h y I n g l e b y ) , s i s t e r C a t h e r i n e ( Fr e d S h a r p e ) , n e p h e w David (Pat Adams). Loving Aunt to Pat ( re m a r r i e d R o b i n Co o k e ) o f D e l h i , Ontario, Great Aunt to Gord (Jenn) of Fergus and Cameron (Florencia) of O a k v i l l e a n d G re at , G re at Au nt to Maddie, Alwynn, Sophia and Sienna and best friend to Valerie Slater and h e r f a m i l y S t a n , L i l y C e l e s t e a n d Drake who will all fondly and forever remember her. Phyllis' mom and dad moved to Acton from Stonehaven, Scotland about 1906. Jane Christie (Registered Nurse) and James Mackie (an Apprenticed Tanner) were married in St. Alban's Church in April of 1907. James worked at Beardmore Leathers (Tannery) for over 30 years while Jane raised their three children. Everyone was actively involved in St. Alban's church family. Miss Phyllis attended Acton Public School (now known as Robert Little) and went on to study Stenography in Milton. She worked at the Five and Dime Store, Coopers Drug Store, Acton Pharmacy and Top Discount Pharmacy. Phyllis enjoyed the cosmetic industry as well and took several cosmetology courses so she could be as asset at her job. When she retired from working in Acton she let no moss grow under her feet. Phyllis applied for a drug store assistant's job in Toronto from a newspaper ad and got the job "sight unseen" as she put it, and was proud of it. She continued to commute daily on the GO Bus/Train into Toronto for 27 years. It was while waiting at the bus stop for the GO Bus in a snow storm that she met up with Valerie. They soon became fast friends, commuting together and building a lasting relationship as "Grama" to Valerie and her family. Phyllis finally retired at 87 from her commute but she was still a going concern. Walking everywhere about town and being self-reliant in most things. She was very proud of being able to stay in her home on Elgin Street, the home that she had lived in since she was 4 years old. When asked about how she stayed so well, she would respond, "eat meat and potatoes" and added "never give up or you've had it". Phyllis was extremely proud of her Scottish heritage and said that is why she was so thrifty and strong willed. Dear Phyllis was a very loyal and devoted daughter taking care of her parents was a priority for her. Though she choose never to be a wife (she broke many hearts), she was a great sister, caring aunt and a true friend to those who knew her. Sadly missed and in our hearts forever. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 4th at 11:00 am at St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church with a reception immediately following. Remembrances may be made to St. Alban's Church. Valerie and Phyllis' family want to thank all those at Extendicare Georgetown for the past three years for their TLC of our precious Phyllis. From Blue Springs Funeral Home, Acton 519-853-2399 BRYANT, Barry Sydney Peacefully, at SAH with his sons by his side, on Monday September 29th in his 66th year. Barry is loved and will be very much missed by his children Michael Bryant (Samantha) of Sault Ste. Marie, Kristoffer Bryant (Jen) of Georgetown and Jennifer McConnell (Mike) of Milton. He will also be fondly remembered by Tara Regis of Milton. Grandpa/Granddad to Jason, Bree, Ian, Sean, Amy, Russell and Dade. He is also survived by his sisters Gloria and Debby, and several aunts and uncles abroad. Barry will also be missed by his closest friend Bob Carson and his extended family at the Northland Bible Chapel in Goulais River. Formerly of Georgetown, Barry was well known about town for his ZZ Top appearance, and his love of fast cars and bikes. However in the early '80s, his greatest achievement was setting a precedent when he won his much publicized battle against the Provincial Government over discrimination for male mothers, thus giving single fathers the same rights as single mothers that needed to be home to raise their children for whatever reason. Friends are invited to a come and go visitation with the family at Northwood Funeral Home and Cremation Centre (942 Great Northern Road 705-945-7758) on Friday evening October 3, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations made to the SAH - Cr i t ica l Care Fund would be apprec ia ted by the fami ly. www.northwoodfuneral.com Barry's family would like to thank Dr's Ghosh and Mathew and the wonderful caring nurses in ICU for their care and guidance over the last two weeks.
