New exhibit opens at Williams Mill WAITING FOR THE SCHOOL BUS By Jan Zimmerman Meet artist Barbara Ariss-Stroh-Wasser Georgetown artist Barbara Ariss-Stroh- Wasser takes a retrospective look at her body of work in an exhibit, Stepping For- ward from a Ten Year Retrospective, now on in the Holcim Gallery at the Milton Centre for the Arts. The exhibit features selected creations that were selected for juried art shows or special events, such as the bi-annual The Toronto Clothing Show, The Birmingham Symphony/England promotions, the 25- year celebration, Lake Shore Arts, Toronto, The Smith Zone Exhibit and 20-hour piano fundraising by composer Frank Horvath, just to name a few. Residents are invited to visit the exhibit during Box Office hours any day until Sun- day, Oct. 19. Ariss-Stroh-Wasser will host a closing reception on Sunday, 2-4 p.m. with refreshments and conversations with the artist and friends. Ariss-Stroh-Wasser was born in Eastern Europe, educated in Western Europe and came to North America through marriage, where she raised two sons with her hus- band, and where she worked as an educa- tor, designer and visual artist. She describes herself as conceptual art- ist, transforming ideas into images. She is known for her vibrant images, as well as her black and white creations inminimal- ism or abstractions. Today, her visual art work is presented in galleries, in group shows and in solo ex- hibits in North America, Europe, Australia and Singapore. Her work is featured in pri- vate homes and in corporations across the globe. Her recent successes include the pur- chase of more than 30 paintings by the Frame Society Galleries in Singapore, and the purchase of 15 pieces of the 2013 ex- hibit "Global Brain, Individual Brain" by a corporate sponsor for the Laurier Milton Education Village Innovation Centre. A professional artist for over 25 years, Lorne Winters is now sharing some of his personal techniques in a series of classes designed to in- troduce beginner and intermediate artists to his oil painting techniques and classic, representa- tional style of painting. Students will benefit from customized teaching (only four students per session) in an intimate studio setting at Winters's Wil- liams Mill studio. Classes will run in four week blocks, Tuesdays, 6:30-9 p.m. or Thursdays 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class structure will leave a lot of flexibility for exploring different direc- tions and topics that may arise from individual student needs, interests and creativity.
