S46719 October is breast cancer awareness month, so a local breast cancer survivor has decided to use the opportunity to combine a Hallow- een showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show with a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. "I spent many Halloween weekends in the- atres watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show as a young adult and now I would like to show the next generation the cult classic!" says Ja- net Hanlin, a nine-year breast cancer survivor. If you have ever seen the movie, you will know that the female lead character in the movie, played by Susan Sarandon, is named Janet Weiss. So, it is suitable that this fund- raiser is hosted by Janet and her family. She knows there are many Rocky Horror fans in the area based on the number of comments she gets about her name. The movie will be shown on Saturday, Oct. 25 at The Roxy in Acton. Rocky Horror has developed a cult following at many small the- atres over the years. Regulars often have the entire movie memorized and sing all the mu- sical numbers. Attending a live showing of the movie is far more entertaining than watching it in your home as the audience is encour- aged to participate. Everyone can get up and do the "Time Warp" or perhaps, light up their phone or use a glow stick to guide the main characters to the Frankenstien Place after the couples' car breaks down in the dark on the way home from a wedding they have attend- ed. (There will, however, be no water guns/ spray bottles, rice/confetti or candles/lighters allowed for safety reasons.) Audience members who are not familiar with what to say and what to do will be given brief instructions before the movie. The doors will open at 8 p.m. with a Time Warp Warm up scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Tick- ets are by suggested minimum donation of $15 for a premium floor seat and $10 for a bal- cony or main floor alcove seat. The floor seats are best for those who want to participate fully and the balcony (seated or standing) is recom- mended for those who prefer to watch the fun! There will be a prize for the best Rocky Horror Costume. Members of the audience who would like to do the Time Warp on stage can purchase a $2 wrist band to allow them access to the stage for the warm up and dur- ing the movie. Organizers have also planned a Lucky Numbers Auction to raise additional funds. Popcorn will be available for sale. Tickets are available at The Roxy in Ac- ton or at Edible Delights,130 Guelph St. in Georgetown. This show is rated 14A-- any- one 14 or under must have adult with them. Children under 12 will not be admitted. This movie/performance contains coarse language, which may not be suitable for everyone. Rocky Horror Picture Show event is fundraiser for Cancer Society
