Photo by Jon Borgstrom After Wednesday morning's deadly gunfire at the National War Memorial and Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the Members of Parliament representing Halton Hills, Oakville, Burlington and Milton were reported to be safe. The violence started shortly before 10 a.m. when a Cana- dian soldier standing guard at the memorial was shot by an unknown gunman. Dozens of shots were fired shortly after- ward in the Centre Block of nearby Parliament Hill. Early Wednesday afternoon, Ottawa police confirmed the male soldier- a Hamilton re- servist-- and the suspected gunman at Parliament Hill had died. The number and status of other possible gunmen remain unknown at press time. Oakville MP Terence Young said Wednesday afternoon, "All Parliamentarians are safe and secure. The shooter was shot dead by our sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers, a brave man.
