•Th e IF P• H al to n H ill s • Th ur sd ay , O ct ob er 2 3, 2 01 4 6 OPINION We're less than a week away from heading to the polls for the 2014 mu- nicipal election. Oct. 27 is the day to have your say on who you want to lead and represent your best interests. Plenty of people and personalities are running for seats here in Halton Hills. Whether it's fresh and new faces in newbie candidates or the gamut of in- cumbents hoping to win your votes, the election has a variety of views and opin- ions from candidates that you should get to know before Oct. 27. While candidates have done their job so far by entering the race, sharing their views and platforms and showing up at local debates, the onus is now on resi- dents to get out and vote. This isn't an opportunity to waste as municipal elections only come along once every four years. And since voter turnout across Ontario in all levels of government doesn't have the greatest track record, now is the time to start making informed decisions about who is worthy of your vote. These are the people who can make a difference at the local level and will advocate on your behalf. If you care about what's happening in your community, how much your prop- erty taxes may or may not go up, what roads are being fixed and how council is spending your hard earned tax dollars, then you need to vote on Oct. 27. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard. Don't waste it. The Independent & Free Press is published Thursday and is one of sev- eral Metroland Media Group Ltd. community newspapers. The Independent & Free Press Don't waste your vote Letters to the editor Re: Ward 2 candidates debate ru- ral, hamlet issues. (The reporter) indicated that I didn't address the question of the diversity of the ward. Possibly because I didn't read my answers from notes and spoke ex- temporaneously, but I did give her a copy of my notes. I'm pretty sure I didn't ignore the topic and did comment. My notes were... "While we are different, I have found that many issues are similar -- quarries vs. people, water, road quality and infrastructure, traffic." I did make these points, perhaps briefly. We aren't as diverse as some may think. Just thought I would take a min- ute to thank the IFP for the extensive coverage of all the candidates run- ning for election in recent issues of the paper. One can get the general in- formation on how and where to vote from the Town mailings and web site. However, at the municipal level in small towns, it is difficult to get comprehensive information on who the candidates are and what they stand for, or even what they look like. Laurent Thibault, Halton Hills Re: The passing of John Day, for- mer town councillor and Nordixx pole instructor. Norman Vincent Peale said, "It's always too early to quit." I'm guessing you and Norman never met but I know he would have been humbled by both your passion for life and your relentless drive to live. My friend, we should all be hum- bled by your selflessness, compas- sion, fear of failure and success. You openly shared the bends in the road and truly inspired us with your undying commitment to improve life's ride. You've left us too soon but we know you are needed elsewhere. Fear of failure can create great leaders, but more importantly it can create great men. Ginger Quinn and your Nordixx Family
