Fogal received 4,811 votes (57%), fol- lowed by John Cooke with 1,841 (21%), Vic- toria Colby, 1,108 (13%) and Ross McDuff, 657 (7%). Fogal said she's "overjoyed" that all the in- cumbents (except for retiring councillor Joan Robson) will be back at the Council table. "It's an endorsement for the work that we've been doing." But she said some resi- dents did mention personal issues, such as traffic on their street, versus the big issues in town. "We have just finished building a lot of facilities that we're now busy paying for," said Fogal. She added that there is a need in Georgetown South for a skateboard park or something else for the youth. Colby said she was disappointed but not discouraged in Monday night's results. "I would like to thank everyone who voted and I also want to thank my friends and the new friends I met along the way who supported me and offered encourage- ment throughout the campaign," said Colby, adding she also wants to thank her "family- my campaign team- my life team." Colby said the biggest concern she heard from residents while campaigning was that local government is out of touch with the needs of the community. McDuff said he congratulates Fogal on her re-election. "I'm up 40 per cent over the last time that I ran, however, I really need to be up 800 per cent to win," said McDuff. "So I think this is the swan song for my politi- cal ambitions-- meaning I won't be running again." Cooke had no comment, other than to say, "I am disappointed with the results." Region-wide Carr earned 84,348 votes, Greg Woodruff 12,344, John Paulic 6,001 and Syed Ali Naqvi 6,065. "Our whole team was focused on keep- ing Halton the best, and we have a great staff, great council and what we said all along is that we wanted to keep it that way and wanted to keep our taxes low, invest in the infrastructure. This is really a vali- dation of what we've been doing over the last few years and we wanted to continue that," Carr said.
