MODEL FB2E2FEX FROM 8.6 CITY / 6.6 HWY (L/100 KM)ˆ The Halton Learning Foundation announced recently that the Cana- dian Welding Association (CWA) had made a $150,000 commitment to support the welding education and pathways programs of the Halton District School Board. It's a five-year pledge that will in- clude a $75,000 cash infusion plus another $75,000 of in-kind services and support to establish the CWA Foundation Fund. "The CWA Foundation is thrilled to partner with Halton Learning Foundation in providing support to students interested in pursuing careers in welding," said Deborah Mates, executive director of the CWA Foundation. "We look forward to working to- gether in the development of a solid welding curriculum that will become a model for other school boards across the province and beyond." The funds will be used to upgrade the welding facilities in high schools throughout Halton Region and pro- vide training opportunities for stu- dents. The HDSB is in the process of standardizing its curriculum in or- der to better prepare students for en- try into the workforce. David Lewis, HDSB co-ordinator for technological education and pathways, said, "This gift will en- hance our program offerings, pro- vide new resources and equipment for the program, provide profes- sional development for teachers, and support the promotion of welding education at the primary and sec- ondary levels." Students can also apply to receive one of 25 scholarships made avail- able annually by the CWA.
