NEWS "I don't think we should name schools after people but if we are go- ing to then we should use full names," she said, noting it has been done by the Halton public board several times since then. Examples include John William Boi- ch P.S., Dr. Frank J. Hayden S.S., Garth Webb S.S. and Anne J. MacArthur P.S. Consultation of the Halton Hills com- munity by the school board resulted in about 80 responses that were almost equally split support for and against the name change; the board said most of those against the change were con- cerned about the cost of changing sig- nage and letterhead. Thirty-seven of 50 staff members at Gardiner P.S. were in support of the name change. A school board report said it will cost about $1,200 to change the name on the exterior of the school and approximately $700, if required, to change a road sign. The board said Gardiner P.S.'s School Council had offered to pay the costs as- sociated with changed signage. The school plans to keep the sports team nickname Gardiner Grizzlies. The school can use its new name im- mediately, however it will not officially be changed to Ethel Gardiner P.S. un- til Sept. 1, 2015, because of education ministry requirements associated with a mid-year name change. Community survey split school name change-- about $2,000 cost Continued from page 4 Gardiner Public School on Danby Dr. will be renamed Ethel Gardiner Public School.
