In fact, he can do what everyone else can do, sometimes with the help of a special device. Jacob has always had a pas- sion for sports and a love of hockey. Thanks to support from The War Amps, Jacob recently received a sledge for playing sledge hockey. Jacob is a mem- ber of The War Amps Child Am- putee (CHAMP) Program and, as such, is eligible to receive fi- nancial assistance with artificial limbs and recreational devices. Instead of wearing skates, Jacob sits strapped with a two- blade sledge that is raised high enough to allow the puck to pass beneath. "Hockey is a fan- tastic sport," said Jacob. "It's good exercise and a lot of fun with the guys." Jacob's parent, Adam and Sarah, are proud of their son. "To see Jacob participating in a sport he loves is awesome," said dad, Adam. "Watching him play beyond these challenges, confirms that he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to," added mom, Sarah. The War Amps encourages Champs to develop a positive attitude towards their amputa- tion, and live to their full poten- tial.
