Operated by Halton Health Care Ser- vices, the Bennett Centre announced last week that its 66 residents would not be re- ceiving visitors, with exceptions, until fur- ther notice due to the spread of the Influen- za A virus, which was confirmed by Halton Region's Public Health office. "For your health and the health of our residents, we ask that you refrain from visiting unless it is an emergency for any resident residing in the Bennett Centre," a release stated. For updates on the condition of "loved ones" and the status of the visiting ban, call 905-873-0115. Flu outbreak closes Bennett Centre to visitors STUCK NOZZLE Firefighters responded to the report of a gasoline leak in the area of Guelph St. and Rexway Dr. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, around 9 p.m. A resident was pumping gas and the nozzle stuck in the open position spilling ap- proximately 10 to 20 litres on the ground. Fire staff covered the spill with absorbant, which was going to be cleaned by the gas sta- tion attendant according to their protocols. A lock was placed on the pump to prevent any future spills until it can be repaired. BATTERY ASSIST Halton Hills Fire Department responded to a public assist on Sutcliffe Lane around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22. On scene staff met with the homeowner who advised that both his smoke detectors were beeping intermit- tently like the battery was low. Staff checked the batteries and both were installed back- wards. Reinstalling the batteries corrected the problem.
