When the vehicle was started  his  cries alerted people  from the town house complex to his location and plight. He was   pried off the muffler--   stiff from the intense cold and unable to move his back legs. His owners were not looking for him and the people who discovered him  tried but were unable to surrender him to a shelter.   NHKR had space so King joined Popsicle,  another frozen cat  already in foster care (previously posted  on the You and Your Pet Page and adopted).     When King recovered from his frozen ordeal it was evident he had "issues". There  were indicators he was an abused cat, when approached he cow- ered  or was defensive  and he strongly defended his  beautifully plumed tail. After a year in therapy he has learned to communicate his feelings and no longer lashes out at people. He gives clear mes- sages when he would enjoy being petted, has had enough brushing or would appreciate quiet time. He absolutely loves to be picked up and carried, he ambushes people brushing their teeth and climbs on shoulders to go for a ride. At night he sleeps snuggle beside people or if able to, stretched out  on top of them.  Televi- sion time is an opportunity for him  to  sprawl  across a lap for a comfortable  nap.  He enjoys  cat carrier rides and willingly   occu- pies unattended carriers for naps.  King's new home will have cat knowledgeable adults able to interpet  his language  and enjoy his quirky personality.  He accepts dogs easily and enjoys young cats, is not good with older cats and he is uncomfortable around children.  King   and other young cats will available for adoption on Saturday at  Pet Valu, 365 Guelph St., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Info: www.NHKR.ca or Barb, 905- 873-8547. By Barb Johnson info@nhkr.ca King is ready for a home Bailey and Ginger are an engaging pair of bonded mature dogs who have been together all their lives and were surrendered because their family broke up and no one could be found to take them. They have been well loved and are healthy and in good condition for their ages. It was very poignant to see the huge box of toys that came with them and their own bedding (they love those comfy beds) to try and make them feel not so abandoned. These dogs had been loved. There is something about older animals that just grab your heart, and these two are charm- ing. Ginger is an 8.5-year-old fe- male border collie/beagle cross, tri-coloured but with the longer border collie coat, even a little beard, portly at 60 lbs. and she is low energy and needs encouragement to participate in more exercise. Bailey is a 9-year-old female lab/ Catahoula cross, 50 lbs, black with white on chest, slimmer, so she proudly sports her purple jacket on outdoor forays on cold days. Ginger and Bailey like their walks and forages, need a fenced yard, can be left alone in the house and enjoy having their loves and tummy rubs during quiet times. Ginger presents as mellow, falls asleep in the car on drives, gentle, generous with her kisses. Bailey displays medium energy, also loves being taken for car rides, if she can have beach time and the chance to play in water that is a bonus. She is gentle but a little unsure in some situations, but as long as Ginger is there as her rock, she calms down. Bailey and Ginger are good with other dogs and used to cats, would be great with an adult-on- ly family, older couple or with a family with chil- dren 8+ who would respect their ages and space. They are used to walking together using a cou- pler so they can walk side by side, with only one leash for both. Both dogs are very clean in their kennels, and present as very sweet natured and friendly, tails wag at your appearance. To be adopted TOGETHER is in their best interests because to be separated at these ages would cause further undue hardship and stress on this lovely twosome. Ginger and Bailey adopted together will be given a "special arrangement" to be discussed with the Shelter Supervisor. Inter- ested?
