COMMUNITY Having won and competed in numer- ous competitions nationally, local concert pianist Thomas Dobrovich of Halton Hills achieved what every pianist dreams of, win- ning first place in the American Protege In- ternational Piano and Strings Competition in New York-- and the prize is a debut in Carnegie Hall at the beginning of April. Dobrovich, 20, began studies at the young age of five at his mother's (Kathy Dobrovich) music school, Keynotes School of Music in Mississauga, and had mastered Mozart's Turkish March Sonata by the age of 10. He is now continuing to further develop his skills under the very capable hands of concert pianists Ron Greidanus and Yaro- slav Pugach, both of whom helped to guide and assist him to where he is today. If you would like to hear young art- ist locally you can attend his debut with Symphony on the Bay in a performance of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto on Saturday, March 7, at Christ's Church Cathe- dral in Hamilton. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $20 for adults. Tickets are available from Greidanus, 905-873-9909. You can also access some of Dobrovich's performance videos on YouTube. Local pianist to play in Carnegie Hall Thomas Dobrovich won a prestigious North American music competi- tion, with first prize being a debut in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Photo submitted
