Jennifer Bisson B.Sc., DD Academic and technical award winner NEWS Lewis elected to roads group Halton Hills Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis has been elected to the board of directors of the Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA). "It's an honour to serve on this board and to lend a strong voice as we call for ongoing road and infrastructure renewal in our prov- ince. Transportation issues are an ongoing concern for our community and it's one that many other municipalities are also focus- ing on," said Lewis, who was elected during OGRA's recent annual meeting. The mandate of OGRA is to represent the transportation and public works interests of municipalities through advocacy, consulta- tion, training and the delivery of identified services. Mayor Rick Bonnette said Lewis's par- ticipation in OGRA will ensure the needs of small towns are understood and heard. "Councillor Lewis has long been a strong proponent for proper investments in roads and infrastructure. This is another example of Halton Hills taking a provincial leadership role on an important issue," he said. Lewis will also serve on two OGRA com- mittee-- Member Services and Nomina- tion. Somerville calls on fed parties to kick in cash Halton Hills Regional Councillor Clark Somer- ville and Federation of Canadian Municipali- ties Board (FCM) member called on federal parties to build Canada's economy through its municipalities. Somerville, Halton Region's representative and Second Vice President for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) partici- pated in one of the final FCM board meetings before the federal election. One hundred municipal leaders spent three days in Burnaby, British Columbia to develop the FCM election platform, which outlines the solutions that will help solve the greatest chal- lenges facing the country. The FCM Board of Directors was adamant that all federal parties should make a deliberate commitment to work with cities and communities to strengthen Canada's economy through its municipalities. "Working in partnership with all levels of government is vital to ensure municipalities like Halton Region can address the pressing is- sues facing their communities while continu- ing to be able to deliver the critical programs and services that all Canadians need and ex- pect from their hometowns," said Somerville. ww w. in de pe nd en tfr ee pr es s. co m
