Coming up Atom AE Thunder earns OMHA Group 2 title The Halton Hills atom additional entry Thunder capped off a memorable season by winning the Ontario Minor Hockey Asso- ciation Group 2 championship on home ice Sunday, defeating the Aurora Tigers 4-3 to take the best-of-5 final three games to one. Initially classified as an AE-2 level team, the Thunder was elevated to the AE-1 loop and finished first during the regular season with a 21-1-6 record, scoring 147 goals while allowing just 46. The Halton Hills squad won the Peterbor- ough Thanksgiving Classic in October and followed that up with a 6-0 run at the Chatham Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Decem- ber, earning a spot in the International Silver Stick Playdowns in Pelham in January, where they finished as semifinalists. In the post-season, the Thunder swept through the preliminary round at 6-0 and re- ceived its toughest test from the Milton Win- terhawks in the quarterfinals, prevailing in a fifth-and-deciding game. Sweeping Amherstburg in the OMHA semifinals set up a date with Aurora for the championship and Halton Hills received contributions from up and down the roster to claim the Charles Drake Memorial Trophy. HALL OF FAMER: Local resident Joan Archibald, 82, and her late husband George were inducted into the Central Ontario 5-Pin Bowlers' Association's Hall of Fame for 2015. Pictured above, Rheal Champagne of Georgetown, who is vice president of COBA's Central Zone and the 2002 Hall of Fame builders' division inductee, presents Joan Archibald with her award. Also in the photo are Archibald's granddaughter Haley Curzon (left) and her great granddaughter Rayne Pyke. COBA uses a point-accumulation system to determine its most-deserving Hall inductee each year and the Archibalds volunteered much of their time in coaching Youth Bowling Council clinics, running tournaments and serving on various executives.
