As a non-profit association, PRO ad- vocates for advancements in health, social and environmental issues in municipalities throughout the province. The 2015 PRO provincial awards recog- nizes the outstanding achievement of the Town of Halton Hills and local contractor R+M Construction for the quality of design and construction of the pedestrian bridge, as well as the approach to working in an envi- ronmentally sensitive area. "The PRO Awards showcase the very best of recreation and parks and also serve to draw attention to the importance and benefits of recreation for healthy people" said Mayor Rick Bonnette. "I'm proud of the Town's success and hope that more residents take the opportunity to explore the trails and see what we have achieved in Hun- gry Hollow." The Regan Ridge Bridge is 43.5 metres in length and links an established trail net- work within Hungry Hollow in Georgetown. The project was unique in its use of a collab- orative design and construction approach between the Town of Halton Hills and R+M Construction resulting in minimal environ- mental disturbance, reduced project costs and "hands-on" community engagement. Regan Ridge Bridge is significant as it was the first pedestrian bridge of its kind for Credit Valley Conservation to review. Its completion has created the "missing link" in the Hungry Hollow trails system offering residents the opportunity to access more than 5.3 km of continuous walking/cycling trail and boardwalk in the heart of one of the area's greatest natural resources. "The completion of the Regan Ridge Bridge represents the ongoing implemen- tation of the Hungry Hollow Management Plan approved by Council in 2004," said Terry Alyman, Director of Recreation and Parks. "We're pleased to be able to partner with skilled construction companies and to engage our local volunteers to promote the benefits of trails in our community."
