Anne Gajerski-Cauley was vot- ed as the candidate at a nomina- tion meeting at Wellington County Museum May 19. Spirits were high in the largest turnout for an NDP nomination in the riding in more than 20 years. Gajerski-Cauley says the recent provincial election results in Al- berta give Canadians permission to vote NDP. During her nomina- tion speech, Gajerski-Cauley out- lined many points of focus for her campaign including restoration of pension eligibility to 65, the return of door-to-door mail delivery for communities in the process of los- ing it, and tax incentives to restore the manufacturing jobs lost under the Conservative government. "Under Ste- phen Harper our resources are shipped off to the United States and China to be pro- cessed and sold back to us. We can process our own resources and an NDP government would rebuild our manufacturing sector," she said. She added that people feel let down by a government that sold off the Canadian Wheat Board and is trying to undermine Canadian rights and freedoms. "The Conservatives hid $10 bil- lion in projected costs for F-35 from voters. How much student debt could be paid off, how many jobs could we create, how many hours of hospital wait times could we reduce with $10 billion? Canadians need a government that shares their priori- ties." She decided to run because she said she believes "in a government that is there for its people, that does not send people off to war without providing them with the proper mental health supports they need when they return."
