GDHS student earns Top 10 result Georgetown District High School senior Alexan- dra Williams turned in a top-10 result in the baking category at the recent Ontario Technological Skills Competition at RIM Park in Waterloo. Williams qualified for the provincial contest by placing first at the Halton Skills Competition last month. As the lone Halton entry in the Secondary School Baking division at the Ontario event, Williams ended up ninth in the division out of 23 competitors. She prepared Lemon Meringue Pie, Challah bread, cake decorations, short bread cookies and eclaires. Inspired by her mother's baking and The Food Network, Williams enrolled in the Chef training pro- gram at GDHS in Grade 10 and excelled immediately. She later joined the Specialist High Skills Ma- jor program and spends two periods a day working in GDHS's Food School kitchen. Williams will attend Humber College next year for its baking and culinary programs. Georgetown's Christ the King also had competi- tors at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition as Sebastian Debrincat and Ben Clair took top spot for Halton in the Team Carpentry competition, finishing 19th out of 43 twosomes.
