Mitchell's love of nature and the outdoors is the inspiration for his work. He travels extensively throughout Northern Ontario including: Muskoka, Georgian Bay, Parry Sound, and the Lake Superior region of Algoma. Mitchell paints only those loca- tions he has actually visited, which enables him to draw upon the emotional impact of a scene. Using vivid colours, his carefree brushstrokes embody the emotion of the experience and the natural and rugged beauty of Northern Ontario "For anyone who spends time in cottage coun- try or the near north, they will immediately rec- ognize the rushing rivers and streams, calm inlets and bays, granite shore- lines, and towering pines and firs, but more impor- tantly, they will recognize how they feel when they are there," said Red Door Gallery Manager Kate McGowan. "And that is a rare thing indeed." Show runs June 11- 28, Thursdays and Fridays, 12-5 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Red Door Gallery, 127 Mill St., downtown Georgetown. Solo exhibit opens this week at Red Door Gallery CHANGING SEASON, NORTHERN ONTARIO
