Submitted photo Cameron 4th at OFSAA 3,000m Mackenzie Cameron of Christ the King Sec- ondary School narrowly missed out on a medal at the provincial championships last week in Toronto but managed to record a personal best in the process. Cameron cracked the 10-minute mark in the senior girls' 3,000m race (9:58.67) and finished just two seconds behind the bronze medalist at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic As- sociations meet at the University of Toronto. She also placed 12th in the senior girls' 1,500m. Georgetown District High School's Savan- na Kent-Korell was a little less than a second out of the medals with an impressive fifth-place result in the midget girls' 300m hurdles. 2012 OFSAA gold medalist, CtK's Aleks Rapp, placed eighth in the senior boys' discus (42.31m) and ninth in the shot put (14.29m). Sean Vander Glas of GDHS was 13th in the junior boys' 800m (2:04.87). Jaguar Stefanie Parsons took 27 seconds off her previous best clocking in the junior girls' 3,000m event, finishing 14th, and teammate Ivana Alilovic placed 17th in the junior girls' triple jump. Green Gaels blow past Bulldogs With the Georgetown Rockets having dis- banded this past year, Milton resident Jeff Miller sought to fill the void by starting up a new track and field club in the area. The former decathlete and 1994 Com- monwealth Games pole vaulter was ex- pecting perhaps 10-12 youths to attend the first tryout last month, but more than 40 kids showed up for the workout. The North Halton Track & Field Club made its competitive debut at a meet in Mississauga in late May and another takes place this weekend in Hamilton. Local residents Mike Marcolini and An- drew Robling have also joined the club as coaches. The club practises on Saturdays at 9 a.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. at Georgetown Dis- trict High School and Wednesdays at Acton District High School at 6 p.m. New members are welcome. For more info, contact jeffhmiller@bell.net The Green Gaels of Clarington scored 39 seconds into their Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League clash with the host Halton Hills Bull- dogs Saturday night and never relinquished the lead, registering a 13-10 triumph. In a matchup between the top two clubs in the league's East Conference, the Gaels improved their record to 13-0 while the 11-3 Bulldogs have dropped two straight starts at home, a rare occurrence. Leading scorer Connor Brown notched a hat trick for the home side, with Owen White (2), Adam Charalambides, Adam Elinesky, Jake Perehiniak, newcomer Wayne McCann and captain Jamie Batten also scoring. Next up for coach Blaine McCauley's crew is a home date with the 5-9 Newmarket Saints Thursday at the Alcott Arena at 8 p.m. Georgetown South's Jordan Rozich is one of the younger players selected for the Team Ontario under-18 girls' field lacrosse squad for 2015, but don't let her age fool you. The 15-year-old attacker was among the top scorers for Christ the King Secondary School's varsity team as a Grade 9 student going up against some opponents three years older. Her talents caught the attention of the Team Ontario coaching staff, headed up by Oran- geville's Bruce Codd, and she was chosen to compete at the 16-team International Festival of Lacrosse in Edinburgh, Scotland from July 28- 31, which will be played alongside the FIL U-19 Women's World Cup. "Jordan is a superstar in the making," said Timm Stephenson, head coach of Christ the King's varsity girls' field lacrosse team. "She has more natural ability than any girl I have coached and knows how to play the game." Rozich played box lacrosse for two years on boys' teams in the Halton Hills minor associa- tion before switching to the newly established Bulldogs' field program a couple of years ago, but noted that the indoor game helped with her development as a player. "I liked the boys' box lacrosse because of the speed of the game, but it was getting pretty rough as they got older," she said. "Then I started playing with the girls' field and I loved it even more." Rozich also plays for an elite-level club team based in Oakville called Everest and will be at- tending a tournament in Florida this summer. Grade 9 CtK student Jordan Rozich has a busy summer of field lacrosse ahead of her, including a trip to Scotland for an international tournament. New club hits ground running
