Halton Hills Com- munity Energy has unveiled a plan to install solar panels on the roof of the arena. This project, constructed in partnership with the Town of Halton Hills, will generate 450 kW of renewable energy under the Independent Electric- ity System Operator's (IESO) Feed in Tariff 3 pro- gram. The annual energy produced will power 60 homes for a year. "This project is another example of the Town of Halton Hills taking a leadership role in building a more sustainable and energy efficient commu- nity," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. The Town of Halton Hills is the 2014 winner of the OPA Community Conservation Award. Construction has started with commissioning planned in time to take advantage of peak energy generation opportunities this summer. "We are proud to partner with the Town on this project showcasing renewable energy and in- novation in our community," said Art Skidmore, President & CEO, Halton Hills Community Energy Corporation. The expanded Mold-Masters SportsPlex is a LEED designed building and was constructed to accommodate rooftop solar panels. The centre also features 14 electric vehicle charging stations provided by Halton Hills Community Energy Cor- poration. Mold-Masters SportsPlex to get solar panels Halton Region is receiving $2.8 million from the Province for ice storm recovery costs. For several months following the storm, Halton Region provided special bulk brush and yard waste collection services to ensure resident safety, and to help clear streets and yards throughout the region. "The December 2013 ice storm had a serious impact on our community, causing substantial damage to residences and businesses," said Re- gional Chair Gary Carr. "We are very pleased that the Province is providing the funding we claimed which will help recover the significant cost from the storm response efforts." The Town of Halton Hills was hit hard by the storm and has received $326,901 in interim fund- ing from the Province.
