The book is a collection of short stories written by the students on slave narratives and they've part- nered with an organization called International Justice Mission to bring to light the battle against modern-day slavery, which affects tens of millions of people around the world, more than ever before. "Hearing that slavery still exists today, the study became very real and the students felt the need to do something about it," said HHCS teacher Angie Bonvanie. "(The students) are modern- day abolitionists." Proceeds from the book sales will go to IJM. At a book launch held earlier this month at George- town Market Place, all 50 copies of From Chains to Freedom were sold in about an hour and another or- der has been placed for more. The impetus for the HHCS publication came from the stu- dents' study of a book called Un- derground to Canada by Barbara Smucker. Sales of a book produced by Halton Hills Christian School students were quite brisk at a recent visit to the Georgetown MarketPlace.
