CANADA DAY FIREWORKS DISPLAY WEDNESDAY, JULY 1ST ACTON PROSPECT PARK - AT DUSK "DONATE AT THE GATE" THERE IS NO ADMISSION CHARGE Firefighters and their families will be available throughout the evening to receive your donations. Proudly sponsored and performed by the Acton Firefighters Association 2015 Acton is once again looking forward to Can- ada Day fireworks, and the members of the Acton Fire Fighters Association will have ev- erything ready to go. Fireworks Chairman Dave Pratt describes the work setting off such a large display. "We have a dozen of our members who take special training to be specially certified to light the fireworks, and we start setting up the mortars hours before nightfall. There is a lot of preparation that goes into it." This year marks the 45th year that the firefighters have put on the show. "We started doing this in 1970, so there are a couple of generations that have grown up with our fireworks." While Pratt describes the evening display as a labour of hometown love, the firefight- ers finance the Canada Day celebration mostly through donations made at the gate. "We spend upwards of $20,000, about as much as Hamilton, on fireworks alone and I think that because our show is so big that some folks still believe that it is government- funded. Without the donations from local Acton Fire Fighters Association plans an explosive Canada Day Members of the Acton Fire Fight- ers Association's trained fireworks team prepares the ground in Pros- pect Park for the annual fireworks show on Canada Day.
