I'm sure you're all looking for a quick, easy and mod- erately healthy dessert to take to a party soon, so we thought you might like this one. Substitute any berries you like, the idea is to let them sit with the citrus and the sugar for a short period of time. The juices from the berries will begin to flow, so you end up with a bit of a syrup as well as berries. This is delightful when served over pound cake, sponge cake, an- gel food cake, ice cream or just all by themselves. Another delicious little trick is to take a handful of the berries and mash them, then mix that back in with the whole berries. It just gives a different texture to the "sauce". You can replace the orange with lemon if you prefer, you can also eliminate the Grand Marnier or sub- stitute a different liqueur. If you want to get ready in advance or you need to travel with this dish, then mix all the ingredients except the berries together and set aside. Wash the berries and pack them separately. When you get to your destination, or a couple of hours before you are ready to eat, then mix the berries and the rest of the ingredients together. Have fun and keep cooking! whatscooking@theifp.ca Macerated Berries with Grand Marnier INGREDIENTS • 2 pints strawberries • 1 pint blueberries • zest of 1 orange • juice of 1 orange • 1/4 cup sugar or honey • 1/4 cup Grand marnier METHOD 1.
