The extended time in foster care has allowed him to further over- come his mistrust of people and recover from being frozen dur- ing the ice storm of 2013. People marvel at his transformation. The new King greets visitors to the house instead of hiding. If he's in his social mood, anyone can pet him and he allows strangers to pick him up. If he's not receiving visitors, he walks away. He now enjoys the company of other cats, especially young females in his foster family. He keeps them beautifully groomed and can be found snuggling with them. King sprawls on his side whenever he's had enough grooming or attention, his message is clear "not now"; he is still enjoying the company but no longer wants attention. King physically resembles the Turkish Van breed and keeps his long coat gleaming. King is easily distracted for nail trims and brushing his coat is negotiable-- there must be more face and neck strokes than tail and tummy brushing. King is not interested in peo- ple food, canned food or treats, he is content with his kibble, so bribery doesn't work with him. His number one love in the world remains being picked up and giv- en rides around the house. King is content to stay indoors. He pre- fers viewing the outdoor world from atop his cat climber where he is truly the King. King would do well in a home with cat knowl- edgeable adults. He is social with young cats and strolls unconcerned around dogs. On Saturday (July 11) King, Daisy and Neve will be at Pet Valu, 369 Mountainview Rd. By Barb Johnson info@nhkr.ca NHKR: King has transformed into the king of his castle There definitely is no bones about the fact that our resident dog, Bones, is an attention getter! Bones is a six-year-old male bloodhound cross, tan in colour; large (80 lbs +) and powerful, with attractive conformation. Bones was surrendered due to a death in his family and he is lonely at the Shelter as he misses having people around and his three other dog companions. Bones is housebroken; fine with other dogs; has his basic commands and displays medium energy. Leash walking is a work in progress as his large size makes it more difficult if the handler is small in stature; treats don't help as he is not food motivat- ed. Bones would definitely require a fenced yard to keep him safe from his bloodhound nose! Bones is a friendly boy, affectionate; absolutely loves those cuddles, also enjoys trips in the car. A home with another dog would be ideal as he also likes canine companionship. An adult-only family or one with children who are 10+ would be the best fit for this boy. Of great importance is the family needs to have knowledge of, and be comfortable with, bloodhounds so that they give him strong leadership and encourage- ment while he settles into his new life. Banzai is his own person, independent, very regal, and intelligent; loves cat trees, heights and windows. Prefers dry food not wet; loves toys. Banzai would be fine by himself or with a companion to whom he has been properly introduced. Banzai likes to be the CEO, talkative, aware; yet he enjoys playing with his toys and would love to spend evenings cuddling in your lap. As Banzai is sensitive to too much touching he would be happier without young children; young adults would be fine. Banzai is a "real" cat who possesses the true feline personality look no further.
