A contest was recently conducted by First Capital Realty in which 21 current and for- mer Ontario College of Art & Design Univer- sity students submitted design proposals for an artwork to be erected at the local shop- ping centre. David Salazar, who attended high school in Bramalea, won the FCR Public Art Com- petition with his One-and-All proposal that will be cast in bronze. Salazar said he chose to represent the community, conservation areas and diverse businesses in Halton Hills by using symbols of local wildlife, a squirrel and dove along- side an enormous acorn (representing pros- perity). Salazar will receive a $5,000 prize as the winning proposal and First Capital Realty is covering the cost of fabrication, site prepara- tion, transportation and installation of his sculpture, which is expected to be unveiled in the fall.
