I was at the barn and when I reached for it, it was gone. The familiar 'bump' in my right front pocket wasn't there. Immediately, I retraced my steps, back and forth in the barn, outside the barn, even did a major search on the driveway between the house and the barn. Nothing. My beloved vintage Victorinox Swiss Army knife was gone. Being an animal of habit, I've found it tough to adjust to NOT having it in my pock- et. I derived comfort knowing it was always there in my pocket-- more specifically, my right front pocket. I remember the day it arrived in the mail, back in November of 1992. My daughters called me at work, telling me a brown package from Fuji film had ar- rived. Once home, I was greeted by the kids, all intrigued by this package. "Open it quick, Dad, let's see what it is!" I guess it'd been driving them nearly crazy all day, trying to guess what it was. It was all wrinkled from little fingers feeling the object inside. The return address was Fuji Film, and it was addressed to me, with "The Georgetown Independent" under my name. As a member of the Ontario News Pho- tographer's Association (ONPA) I often received samples from photographic film companies, asking me to try the product and fill out a questionnaire. ONPA supplied these companies with a mailing list, and they send out the products. But this package wasn't a product. It was a gift-- an absolutely beautiful of- ficial Victorinox Swiss Army knife, with its signature red handle, and a metal Fuji film logo inset into the handle, opposite the Vic- torinox trade mark.
