He noted that further delays could result in more layoffs. Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette said he wouldn't support deferring a decision on the quarry. "I understand Council- lor Elgar's concerns, but this has been going on for six or seven years. It's not a decision that just came up," he said. He went on to note that Dufferin's plans would benefit the community. "There are a lot of different quarries out there, but when it comes to haul routes I have to say this is the gold standard," she said, applauding the company's advanced haul route monitoring system that will en- sure truck traffic doesn't go through George- town. Dufferin's haul route agreement also sets out a complaint response protocol that will have to be followed. The company's proposal comes along with an adap- tive management plan, which is designed to protect ground water and surface water for residential wells, water supplies and natural heritage features. Wards 1 and 2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville noted Dufferin has been a "very proactive" company in its current operations and is quick to ad- dress any issues that arise. Dufferin first filed an application for the expansion of its quarry in 2009.
