Halton Hills had defeated Owen Sound 6-4 in Sunday morning's semifinal. The Bulldogs started off the tourney with a 9-6 triumph over the Oakville Hawks Friday before dropping a 7-4 decision to Toronto Beaches and defeating Kitchener- Waterloo 11-5 on Saturday. Scoring for the Bulldogs in the final were Jordan Rozich (4), Lind- sey Highfield (3), Logan Haynes (2) and Monica Lauryssen. In minor box lacrosse play- downs, the Halton Hills bantam Bulldogs advanced to the OLA championships after posting a 3-1 record at the Provincial 'A' qualifier held at Oakville's Toronto Rock Ath- letic Centre this past weekend. The bantam Bulldogs lost their opening game 7-1 to Whitby, then defeated Wallaceburg 4-3, Claring- ton 5-4 and Six Nations 8-5 to earn a spot in the provincials this week- end in Whitby. Impact seeking new beach home The second season of the George- town Impact beach volleyball pro- gram has wrapped up with about 50 youths taking part in thrice-weekly practices and provincial series tour- naments through the spring and summer. Utilizing courts made available through the benevolence of Nash- ville North in Norval, the organiza- tion is looking for a more permanent home and Impact representative Greg Abrams has been in discus- sions with the Town of Halton Hills about striking up a partnership. Abrams made a presentation re- cently to Town recreation staff, tout- ing the potential growth and benefits to local youths for creating a beach volleyball facility in Halton Hills. A number of local residents who've gone on to play varsity vol- leyball at university, including Jake MacNeil, Ken Kerr and Rob- bie Abrams, volunteered to coach the younger kids this year and sev- eral have earned medals at Ontario Volleyball Association-sanctioned events. "The beauty of it is the older kids who have been involved with beach volleyball for many years are anxious to give back to the sport and they're the ones leading the program," not- ed Abrams, who is the organization's administrator. "The onus is on us to show that these courts are worthwhile and that they'll be used by the kids." Abrams also hopes that popular indoor adult leagues that run in the fall and winter will consider tak- ing their games outdoors with the establishment of sand courts in the municipality. The OVA Beach Championships wrapped up in Toronto last week- end with Impact teams making the podium. Jake Albert and Nathan Rothery earned silver medals in the under-15 boys' Challenger Division, while MacNeil and partner Craig Ireland collected bronze in the Adult Elite Division. Steven Abrams (left) and John Dunning paired up to win the OVA Beach Cham- pionship for the under-14 boys' Division 2 with an undefeated record last week at Ashbridge's Bay in Toronto after both were left without partners due to injuries in the week before the provincial tourna- ment.
