NOW OPEN! Rates starting at just $2,690!* Having not been able to use their skatepark for two straight summers while the new, bigger and bet- ter version is being built, it's understandable that youths in Acton might be a little impatient. So the Town of Halton Hills has had to hire a security firm to keep kids from hopping the fence and getting a sneak preview of the glistening 3 Musketears Skatepark that's due to open on the Friday of the Labour Day weekend. The official opening is set for Wednesday, Oct. 7. "You see the park now and it looks like it's fin- ished, but there are a few things that need to be done before it can be used," said John Archibald, the Town's facility capital projects supervisor. "We're asking that people be patient for a cou- ple more weeks." The Town requested input from skatepark users in the design of the new park, which has a price tag of just over $500,000. Open to in-line skaters and BMX riders, It's approximately twice the size of the previous park, which was located in the same lo- cation as the new facility, behind the Acton Arena. The new 21,226 sq. ft. facility also has multi-pur- pose usage with a basketball court that can be con- verted into an outdoor skating rink in the winter. The 3 Musketears Skatepark is named in mem- ory of three youths, Mark Everson, Travis Toth and Rory Dick, who died in an accident in September 2000. An annual golf tournament and other fundrais- ing activities have generated close to 30 per cent of the total cost to construct the park. This year's tournament is sold out again and will take place Saturday at the Acton Golf Club. Construction on the new and expanded 3 Musketears Skatepark is nearly complete, but users of the Acton facility will have to wait until Friday, Sept. 4 for its opening.
