See pg. 9 $100,000 fire, smoke damage to Georgetown home A Meadowglen Blvd. home in Georgetown sustained $100,000 damage after a fire Saturday afternoon. Halton Hills Fire Department quickly knocked down the blaze that began in the kitchen, after responding to the call at 12:43 p.m. Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Morrison said an alert neighbour, seeing smoke coming from the home, phoned in the 911 call, with HHFD, EMS and Halton Police all respond- ing. Police officers arrived on scene first, and attempted to search the home for occupants, but were thwarted by the heavy smoke, he said. Upon arrival, while firefighters extin- guished the blaze, others searched the home for occupants. No one was at home at the time of the fire, said Morrison, but the family cat succumbed to smoke inhalation, despite re- ceiving oxygen. There was heavy fire and smoke damage on the main floor, and smoke damage on the second floor, said Morrison. It was good work by the crews on the scene to quickly bring the fire under control, said Morrison. HHFD is investigating the fire to pinpoint the cause, but it is not deemed suspicious, he added. Photo by Steve Jesse Parents plan to sue over toddler's burnt feet By Pam Douglas Metroland Media Group A lawyer for the family of a young Brampton boy severely burned at a Georgetown splash pad this summer has told the Town of Halton Hills they plan to file a lawsuit. "The intent (of a claim) is to protect Greyson," said Adam Halioua of Goodman Halioua LLP. "He is a one-year-old child who has suffered these very severe burns.
