(BPCL) and Morrison Hershfield Limited (MH), to complete a Detail Design, Class Environmental Assessment Study and Construction for the replacement and widening of the following Highway 401 structures: CPR Overpass (Site 10-20/1&2); Campbell Avenue East Overpass (Site 10-44/1&2); Sixteen Mile Creek Overpass (Site 10-49/1&2); and Appleby Line Overpass (Site 10-49/1&2). A map of the study area is provided below. Three lanes of traffic will be maintained on Highway 401 throughout construction at all sites. Nightly lanes closures on Highway 401 will be permitted to facilitate work. On site detouring in the vicinity of each site will be provided during construction. Pedestrian and cyclist traffic at Campbell Avenue East Overpass and Appleby Line Overpass will be maintained during construction. Use of the Bruce Trail, adjacent to the Apple Line Overpass will also be maintained during construction. During construction of Campbell Avenue East and Appleby Line Overpasses, full closure to vehicular traffic will occur to facilitate construction. Campbell Avenue East will serve as the detour route during the closure of Appleby Line and vice versa. Therefore these two structures will not be closed at the same time. Construction will commence in Fall 2015 and will conclude in the Spring 2018. Some delays are expected, so motorists are requested to use alternate routes when possible. The Ministry of Transportation regrets any inconvenience caused by the above traffic restrictions and is working quickly to complete the project as soon as possible. I've been charged with exceeding the 40 Hour High School Volunteer Requirement and my bail is set at $1,000! Please donate and bail me out of jail!" asks Harnoor Gill of Halton Hills. Harnoor Gill, a 17-year-old high school student from Halton Hills, de- cided he wanted to give back and is taking part in the Crime Stoppers of Halton's Jail-A-Thon Charity event on Oct. 17 in Burlington Mall, where he will become 'a jailbird' for a day! "It's a real privilege, he says, to vol- unteer with the Crime Stoppers," Gill says. A volunteer virtuoso, Gill also serves and participates in special events such as the Police Day and Ribfest to help raise awareness of lo- cal crime prevention. "My first experience with crime prevention was when I became part of the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in middle school and took part in the PEACE (Police Ethnic and Cultural Education) Youth Leadership Program in Grade 9. I am now in Grade 11 and am on the Safe Schools Committee and the National Youth Advisory Committee (NYAC) of the RCMP. I believe all of this involve- ment was what led me to become a member of the Crime Stoppers of Halton." His goal is to raise $1,000 for them and he has already reached $775. "I would really appreciate if peo- ple would support this cause and help me help my/our community," he says. But where does all this spring from? In fact it was his mother who encouraged him to start volunteering when he went through a difficult time as a newcomer to Canada. By becoming involved in his com- munity he discovered he forgot about himself by thinking more about folks Local teen wants help to get out of 'jail' around him. This opened a new and happier chapter for him. It also helped him overcome his shyness to the point that today he speaks in public for various causes es- pecially advocating for the youth. Gill founded the Peace Welcome Club (PWC) a few years ago in Halton Hills with the help of his mother. The club is open to children/youth from 4-18 years of age but designed espe- cially for newcomers to Canada. The idea is to help welcome them and in time show them how they can become involved in the community. Gill says he sees the PWC as a tool that can be used for social justice and a hub that gives youth a chance to raise their voices for good and contribute to bringing about change where needed.
