COMMUNITY The inaugural Old Downtown Arts/Cultural Day held in Georgetown earlier in the fall turned out to be popular for many local shop owners, artists and chefs and plans are well un- derway to stage the event next year. There was a grassroots feel to the George- town BIA-orgainzed festivities and local artist Laars Beam was inspired to invite several mem- bers of the public to paint on a blank canvas, from which he created a completed work called 'The Roads We Took Together.' Beam donated the painting to the BIA and it's currently up for silent auction at Sweetie Pies restaurant at 28 Main St. S. until Nov. 27. Bid- ding began at $200 and proceeds from its sale will go to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. Georgetown artist Laars Beam displays the finished painting that local residents helped contribute to with their own strokes of a brush during the recent Arts/Cultural Day sponsored by the Down- town BIA. Also in the photo (from left) are Georgetown BIA chair Ted Flanagan, Sweetie Pies restau- rant owner Julie Greenslade, Georgetown BIA manager Wendy Farrow-Reed and Sandy Mackenzie, who came up with the idea for an Arts Day in the downtown area.
