After reading the notice in the paper, Tauni Sheldon, an Inuk now residing in Halton Hills and working with incarcerated Inuit, attended the meeting to share awareness of her Inuit culture. These two dedicated women told heart- wrenching stories about the lives of the Inuit living in isolated Arctic communities. Of par- ticular concern is the suicide rate, especially among the young, which is 11 times higher than the rest of Canada. The aim of the project is to enable Inuit communities to be self-sustaining and to live with health and dignity through outreach by providing essential life items and through so- cial justice by providing education and north/ south relationship strategies.
