Georgetown man killed in car crash in Florida BILL KENT Halton District School Board and the Elemen- tary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), Halton Teachers Local, have reached a tenta- tive agreement on a local contract. The deal has to be ratified by local Halton ETFO teacher members and the HDSB. Terms of the agreement won't be made public until it is ratified. The date of the local vote is Dec. 1. ETFO Halton represents more than 2,800 Halton elementary teachers. "We have been without a contract since Aug. 31, 2014…. The agreement was arrived at after 21 days at the bargaining table," Hal- ton Local President Marg Macfarlane said in a press release. "The new two-tiered bargaining proto- col meant we had to follow an exceptionally lengthy process before reaching this local ten- tative agreement," she said. "We believe this agreement is fair and meets the needs of our members." Earlier this month, 86 percent of ETFO teacher and occasional teacher members province-wide, including those in Halton, vot- ed in favour of a separately bargained central deal with the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA) and the government. Provincially, ETFO represents 78,000 el- ementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals. By Tim Whitnell Metroland Media Group Elementary teachers union, HDSB reach local deal Crews from Halton Region's Public Works Depart- ment were dispatched to fix and clean up after a wa- termain break on School Lane in Acton at around 1 p.m. Thursday. A large crater closed traffic on the street and the Acton branch of the Halton Hills Public Library closed early at 3 p.m. as regional staff had to shut off the water in the area to repair the main break. Traffic in the area was already snarled by paving on Mill St. and on a couple of other side streets in the area. As if the traffic tie-ups hadn't already made getting through Acton on Thursday like finding the end of a maze, a broken watermain closed off streets around the Halton Hills Public Library for a couple of hours in the early afternoon.
