Miller's Scottish Bakery SAVIS to hold Dec. 6 vigil in Milton Fifty-one per cent of Canadian women will ex- perience at least one incident of sexual or physi- cal violence in their lifetime. One out three Ca- nadian women will experience sexual assault in their adult lifetime. Sexual Assault & Violence Intervention Ser- vices (SAVIS) of Halton's Acting Executive Di- rector Sondos Parker said, "Violence against women is still reality in 2015. We are here to sup- port all survivors and we continue to work hard to end violence against women." While SAVIS of Halton provides services to all survivors of violence (women, men and mem- bers of the Trans community), anniversaries such as Dec. 6-- when a man killed 14 female engineering students in an École Polytechnique classroom in Montreal in 1989-- give people an opportunity to show their ongoing support to end gendered violence. This year SAVIS of Hal- ton, will hold a vigil on Sunday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, Milton to commemo- rate murdered women and commit to continu- ing the work to end violence against women. If you, or someone you know, needs infor- mation or support please call 905-825-3622, 877-268-8416, or the 24 Hour Support & Crisis Line at 905-875-1555. SAVIS offers free counsel- ling for individuals, groups, and an extensive anti-violence/safety education program for businesses, agencies and community groups.
