The purpose of the Strategy is to identify how the Region can, within itsmandate and resources, support the long-term sustainability of the rural economy.This includes farms and farm support businesses, on-farmbusinesses secondary to a farming operation, non-agricultural uses in rural hamlets and clusters, and cottage industries and home occupations. The background report will inform the development of the strategy, which contains a comprehensive analysis of the agricultural and rural areas in Halton region. This analysis includes hamlets and rural clusters, identification of specific needs and challenges facing farmers and rural businesses, a review of legislation, regulation, policies and plans, an environmental scan of best practices and programs, and a SWOT analysis for agriculture and the rural settlement areas. A Public Information Centrewill be held to provide an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the background report. The consultantwill give a presentation outlining key information that has been gathered andwill be present to address any questions and comments.
