Following a successful enforcement effort surrounding the Town of Milton, Project "Rural Impact 2" was launched on Oct. 23 to target aggressive drivers that routinely use rural roads surrounding Georgetown. The project ran through to Nov. 21 and in- volved officers from 1 District patrol and the District Response Unit, whose job it is to ad- dress quality of life issues and conduct zero tolerance enforcement in order to make our communities safer. A total of 28 officers contributed to the enforcement effort. After a month of targeting this patrol area officers reported the following enforcement statistics: • 256 Provincial Offence Notices were laid-- mostly for speeding offences • 13 people were charged for "Stunt" driv- ing (driving 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit) and had their cars seized for 7 days • 4 people were arrested for impaired driving • 3 people were arrested for driving while under a suspension • 2 people were arrested for possession of drugs Patrol Officers and those from the District Response Unit will continue to focus their efforts on targeting those drivers that place themselves and other road users at risk. The unit receives many complaints from citizens expressing their concerns regarding aggressive drivers and by working with the Region of Halton and local municipal staff we aim to stay focused at targeting those drivers who present the greatest risk. As we approach the annual RIDE season, officers within Milton and Halton Hills will target impaired drivers, aiming to ensure that all those that place themselves and oth- ers at risk by driving impaired will be caught and held to account. Officers will now be engaged in Project JUNO targeting impaired drivers. Project JUNO was established in 2012 in honour of those Canadians who lost their lives on JUNO beach during the D-Day landings. During lasts year's project, 21 people were arrested for impaired driving. If you suspect that a driver is impaired and it is safe to do so please call police via 911 and be prepared to provide the follow- ing information: • The licence plate and description of the suspect vehicle • Your name and contact information • Your current location and direction of travel of the suspect vehicle • A description of the driving behaviour The Halton Regional Police Service would like to remind drivers to slow down, wear their seatbelts and do not drive im- paired; your life, or the lives of others could depend on you making the right decision.
