Please contact the NHKR YOU AND YOUR PET Dahlia leads a double life! By day she is Pet Valu south's store cat for adoption, nights and holidays she is a home-fostered NHKR feline. Every morning Dahlia ac- companies store owner Lor- raine to Pet Valu, remaining at the store to oversee transactions, welcome customers and greet prospective families. After closing Lorraine returns to the store, collects Dahlia and returns her home to be pam- pered. Dahlia has enjoyed this ar- rangement, she knows the routine and loves all the attention but it is time she had a permanent home and family. Dahlia and her kittens arrived in foster care after being abandoned on the side of Trafalgar Rd. Although very young herself-- not a year old-- she was a protective and affectionate mom. She enjoys people, the attention they proffer and the companionship she receives. In return she plays gently with people and is affectionate. She thrives on interactive play, easily learning new games and enjoying anything that challenges her. Grooming is welcomed as Dahlia has no problems with nail trimming and brushing her short coat is pleasurable for her. She thrives on attention and the stimulation people provide her. Dahlia is a lovable intelligent cat adaptable to new situations. She would fit into most families although she isn't fond of dogs and she has issues with domi- nant male cats. Dahlia and Timber will be available for adoption at Pet Valu, 369 Mountain- view Rd. on Saturday, 1-3 p.m. Young felines are available at Pet Valu, 235 Guelph St. on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For pictures, profiles and info www.NHKR.ca or call Barb at 905-873-8547. All adoptions are $160, cash only. By Barb Johnson info@nhkr.ca NHKR: Dahlia leads a double life Christmas has come and gone. New Year's celebra- tions are over, but still not one person (NO ONE) has shown any interest in even looking at Pogo, let alone considering him for adoption. Sometimes this happens with a harder-to-place energetic dog, but it is sad when it does. Pogo sees other dogs continually leaving with new families and he is re- jected; but still his little heart beats in hope. Of prime importance when introducing this boy is that he is desperate to please UCHS staff and volunteers, indeed anyone, but does not know how-- he just needs a family willing to invest some time in him and voila, he will be a great boy! Pogo is a one-and-a-half-year-old, male, husky cross, black with some white, a tall-and-lean 60 lbs. with a sleek coat and a handsome look. Your heart breaks for Pogo due to the fact there is so much potential and intelligence but he has not had the necessary time and love put into his well being. He does have his basics but still tends to jump up and "pulls" when on walkies, which is being worked on. Families with husky experience would be ideal as Pogo is classed as a sleigh husky. He has inher- ited the husky's very high energy and must go to a home with a fenced yard, or like a Pogo stick our Pogo would be out of there in an instant. Pogo would need an adult, active, family or with children in the 16-plus range. If the family already had another large active dog this would help Pogo transition into his new life and give him a playmate for working off his energy. Pogo has a high prey drive and would not get along with cats or other small animals. If you are reading this and have husky experi- ence and are willing to put in the time initially to train and exercise this fine boy, it will be a win-win situation; apartment living and a sedentary life will not work for him or a new family. Interested families please call the Shelter at 519-833-2287 or e-mail adoptions@uppercredit.com. UCHS: Pogo is still waiting By Judith-Anne Kolu info@uppercredit.com Pogo has high energy and would need an active adult family. Submitted photo DAHLIA
