Leading scorer Jack Jacome's goal in 3-on- 3 overtime gave the 27-11-3-1 Raiders a 4-3 victory over the host Toronto Jr. Canadiens Sunday evening to cap off the frantic week- end of play. Newcomer Ryan Takamatsu notched a pair of power-play markers for Georgetown and Jordan Crocker had the other in the win, with An- drew Masters making 44 saves. The Raiders began the weekend Friday with a 5-1 trouncing over the Royals in Markham, led by Brendan Jacome's two-goal effort. Matthew Thom, Anthony Mota and Ar- ran MacDonald rounded out the scoring and defender Zack Dybowski added three assists. Billy Day collected the W in goal with 36 stops. The 18-year-old Takamatsu, picked up in a trade with North York just prior to last week's roster-cutdown date, and Mota tallied in the 3-2 overtime loss Saturday against guest Bur- lington. Georgetown is one point behind the Buf- falo Jr. Sabres for top spot in the league's Southwest Conference with two games in hand and a dozen dates remaining in the reg- ular-season schedule. The Raiders hosted to the Toronto Patriots Wednesday night and will play twice this weekend at the OJHL College Show- case event at the Scotiabank Pond in Toronto, Saturday against the Mis- sissauga Chargers at 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday versus the Patriots at 2:30 p.m. Also picked up for the playoff push by Raiders' head coach & GM Greg Walters is 20-year-old Bennett Altman, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward from Coral Springs, Fla., who spent time with Kanata of the Central Canada league and Swan Valley of the Mani- toba Jr. A loop this season before making his Georgetown debut Sunday. The Town of Halton Hills will be enlisting the help of the public in coming up with names for each of the ice pads at the Acton Arena & Community Centre. Details about the Ice Pad Naming Con- test will be announced at the official un- veiling of the Acton Arena & Community Centre expansion on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Churchill Rd. facility. An ad-hoc committee comprised of community volunteers, Town staff and rep- resentatives of CRH Canada Group (former- ly Dufferin Aggregates) will evaluate and se- lect recommended names from the contest submissions. The official opening of the ex- panded Acton Arena & Community Centre will run from 1-5 p.m. on Jan. 30 featuring outdoor skating, weather permitting. Naming contest for Acton Arena Nominations taken for Hall of Fame CORRECTION: In last week's Independent & Free Press, it was stated that the last time a locally based team won an International Silver Stick championship was in 2009, according to information supplied by the Halton Hills Minor Hockey Association. In fact, the Georgetown atom AE Raiders defeated a team from Ohio 2-1 in the final to capture the International Silver Stick title in 2011.
