Submitted photo Large turnout to community-led info meeting in Glen Williams Approximately 150 Glen Williams residents crammed a community public information meet- ing on March 9 at the Glen Williams Town Hall about the proposed Eden Oak Creditview Heights development. The meeting, held by the Glen Williams Com- munity Association (GWCA), was not a night of speeches or disagreements about the Eden Oak Creditview Heights development plan to build 32 homes adjacent to the Wildwood Rail Trail. Instead it was an opportunity to look at a GWCA- commissioned landscape architect's renderings of the development built on the top of and even into the hill overlooking Credit, Erin and Park Sts. in Glen Williams. Residents' comments were themed around several areas: safety of the storm water manage- ment pond and its overflow which is shown direct- ed down Credit St. or onto Wildwood homeowners properties; the loss of the unique rural and hamlet qualities of the Glen should it be dominated by large multi-storey homes behind retaining walls visible from almost everywhere in the Glen; and the seemed unwillingness of the developer to re- spond to the Town's request to talk with Glen resi- dents about how to build here, yet still maintain its special character. There was deep community concern that this developer's non-engagement style does not bode well for the future of the ham- let, given that residents only learned recently from the Town that Eden Oak owns not two, but three large development properties in the Glen. GWCA spokesperson Janet Bailey said, "It is time for the friends of the Glen to get active! Eden Oak's proposal is along the lines of paving para- dise to put up the proverbial parking lot. We do not see this development as being respectful of the Glen Williams Secondary Plan to preserve the spirit or letter of our community plan. The GWCA has standing at the Ontario Municipal Board's July hearing about this development and we will be there to vigorously support the Secondary Plan and reinforce the Town's commitment to acknowl- edge and value it."
