ASK THE PROFESSIONAL When you're making an offer to purchase a property, one item to consider is the day of completion (closing day). This is the day the deal is completed and you get your key. All you have to do is pack your moving truck and wait for your lawyer to call you to tell you that the deal is done and you can move in. Your lawyer will be completing the transaction on the day of closing by working with your mortgagee and the vendor's lawyer. Your bank or lender will advance your mortgage money to your lawyer on the day of closing. Hopefully it arrives first thing in the morning, but for any number of reasons it may not arrive until the afternoon. Once your lawyer has your mortgage money he or she can carry on with the transaction, pay the vendor and register the deed. The entire process from the day you think about moving to the day you move in can be busy and at times stressful, but on the day of closing itself hopefully everything goes smoothly. 33 Main Street South Acton, ON L7J 1X3 Tel: 519-853-1330 Fax: 519-853-4645 Email: macchap@on.aibn.com Mark Hilliard Mackenzie & Chapman Barristers and Solicitors The advice offered in this column is intended for informational purposes only.
