A previous house cat, she was living as a neighbourhood stray for three months scrounging for food and judging by her thin body not doing very well. NHKR was called when it was evident she was pregnant, and Belle was taken into foster care and her kittens were born on Dec. 10. It was immedi- ately noticed by the foster family that Belle was terrified of brooms and fearful of men. All of this distress, before she was nine months old. Belle has made wonderful progress thanks to her foster fam- ily who comforted her and made her feel secure. With a patient family Belle will continue to recover from her ordeals. When Belle has established a relationship with people, she is a friendly playful cat. She trusts her foster mom-- Belle comes when called, enjoys being picked up and held for short durations, will carry on a conversation and enjoys snuggling on the bed at night. Belle loves having her sleek com- bination coat of very long hair and a short under coat brushed and belly rubs and chin scratches are always welcome. A quiet home with an experienced cat would help Belle continue her recovery. She is sociable with older cats, but younger cats and dogs make her anxious. Belle is slowly learning to accept men and with patience she will overcome this too. She enjoys interaction with people, which is helping her to overcome her fears. Belle will be available for adoption at Pet Valu, 369 Mountainview Rd., 1-3 p.m. Other young cats will be at Pet Valu, 235 Guelph St. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For pictures, profiles and info www.NHKR.ca or Barb, 905-873-8547. By Barb Johnson info@nhkr.ca NHKR: Belle has suffered enough Still waiting... Pogo aims to please, but doesn't know how! Of prime importance when meeting this boy is that he is desperate to please any human that comes his way, but does not know how. No one has ever loved him enough to invest some time in him and if this is done, we are confident he will be a great boy! Pogo is still up for adoption but is waiting in a private home where he is living with two other dogs but they cannot keep him permanently. Al- though home care is preferable to Shelter life for a dog like Pogo, it will mean yet another adjustment for him when he is adopted as he has grown fond of his temporary family. Pogo is a a 1.5 year old, male, husky cross, black with some white, a tall and lean 60 lbs with a sleek coat and a handsome look. Pogo has so much potential and is very intelligent so if you have the time and love he will be up to the task. Pogo does have his basics but still tends to jump up and "pulls" when on walkies which is being worked on. Families with Husky experience would be ideal as Pogo is classed as a sleigh husky. He has inherited the Husky very high energy and must go to a home with a fenced yard, or like a Pogo stick our Pogo would be out of there in an instant. Pogo would need an adult, active, family or with children in the 16-plus range. If the family already had another large active dog this would help Pogo transition into his new life and give him a play- mate for working off his energy. Pogo has a high prey drive and would not get along with cats or other small animals. If you are reading this and have Husky expe- rience and are willing to put in the time initially to train and exercise this fine boy, it will be a win- win situation; apartment living and a sedentary life will not work for him or a new family. UCHS really wants Pogo re-homed so there will be a very special arrangement to accomplish this with the adopting family. Interested families please call the shelter at 519-833-2287 or email info@uppercredit.com to arrange a meet and greet as Pogo will need to be brought to the Shelter.
