The $280,000 renovation features a new accessible service counter which greets residents and staff as they walk through the main entrance. Part of a town initiative aimed at improving cus- tomer service, the renova- tions are part of an ongoing effort to shift some staff and elements of town oper- ations to the Robert C. Aus- tin Operations Centre in an effort to streamline and better organize municipal services. "These are the first ma- jor renovations that we have done since it was built in 1988. We want the town hall to be a friendly and in- viting place. Right now when a person walks in to the building they find a large lobby and people are unsure of where the de- partments are located," said Mayor Rick Bonnette before the project began in the spring. The new look coincided with a name change from Halton Hills Civic Centre to Halton Hills Town Hall, which is now the facility's official designation. The work, which began in May, was completed ear- lier this month and the new "Service Halton Hills" counter is now open to the public. Halton Hills clerk and director of legislative ser- vices, Suzanne Jones, de- scribed the new counter in the spring as: "an en- hanced, accessible and mainly one-stop service approach where visitors to town hall can seek infor- mation, be provided direc- tion, conduct numerous transactions, and as impor- tantly, feel welcome." The existing service counter will also remain in operation.
