Amenities Include Four young offenders from Brampton and Toronto have been charged with a num- ber of criminal offences following the sec- ond robbery of the Circle K convenience store on Mountainview Road in a little more than a month Saturday night (Dec. 30). Halton police responded to the call at about 10:15 p.m., just south of Guelph Street. It's alleged that four males entered the store, brandished a firearm and bound the clerk. The suspects proceeded to steal a quanti- ty of cigarettes, cash and candy before flee- ing in a vehicle. The clerk was uninjured. At about 10:40 p.m., officers observed the suspect vehicle in a plaza at Guelph Street and Delrex Boulevard and arrested three of the suspects. A fourth suspect fled the scene but was arrested shortly after with the assis- tance of the canine unit. The suspects were held in custody pending a bail hearing. Det. Sgt. Dave Costantini said Halton po- lice are liaising with other police services in the investigation and that more charges are anticipated. He added that it has yet to be determined whether Saturday's incident is related to the robbery of the Quick-Pik convenience store in Georgetown South on Dec. 22, in which four suspects were reported to have been in- volved, or the armed holdup of the same Cir- cle K store on Nov. 20. The signage on the front of the Circle K store, located across the street from the Beer Store, still bears the Mac's convenience name, but the company was recently rebranded as Circle K Conve- nience. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Det. Const. Michael Rotsma, at 905-878-5511 ext. 2450. POLICE AND FIRE Four men arrested after another convenience store robbed Halton Region has re- cently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Halton Waste Management Site. To mark this milestone, the region hosted a free community open house and doors open event at the Halton Waste Manage- ment Site (HWMS) for a special, behind-the-scenes experience to thank resi- dents for their participa- tion in waste reduction programs. The celebration includ- ed a guided bus tour of the site, waste collection vehi- cle exhibitions, birds of prey demonstrations, lo- cal food trucks and more. An official cake cutting took place at noon. "The Halton Waste Management Site opened in 1992 and was originally expected to last only 20 years or until the year 2012," said Halton regional chair, Gary Carr. "Thanks to the efforts of Halton res- idents participating in Halton's waste diversion programs like Blue Box and Green Cart, I am proud to say the landfill life is now projected to the year 2044. Maintaining our waste diversion rate has helped extend the lifespan of this site saving taxpay- ers over $15 million by de- ferring the significant costs associated with building a new waste man- agement site."
