33| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,January 11,2018 theifp.ca The Town of Halton Hills's Sustainability Implementation Committee announced its latest initiative last week - a welcome package for new residents of the municipality. The welcome package will support new residents in getting settled and integrated into the community. A letter of greeting is included in the package along with a memory key to link di- rectly to the town's welcome webpage, filled with useful in- formation about living in Hal- ton Hills. The key also has extra memo- ry capacity for personal storage. "We want to make the transi- tion to Halton Hills easy for peo- ple and understanding the many amenities available local- ly is a big part of that," said May- or Rick Bonnette, chairperson of the Town Sustainability Im- plementation Committee (TSIC). "From beautiful parks to cul- tural opportunities to knowing where to shop or even where to access medical support - these are all important facets to mak- ing the move to a new communi- ty a happy and memorable expe- rience." TSIC members lead projects that implement the community sustainability strategy, provid- ing direction on decisions that move the community to a higher quality of life. The town views sustainabili- ty through four pillars: cultural vibrancy, economic prosperity, environmental health and so- cial well being. The welcome package is the fourth initiative completed by this term of the TSIC. Other projects include: . A block party kit to encour- age residents to get to know their neighbours; . An investigative report on the variety of successful com- munity hubs and; . A report on community street trees that will contribute to the climate change adaptation plan currently being undertaken by the Town. The welcome package relates to the social well being pillar of sustainability and supports the long-term community vision, which reads: 'In 2060, the urban and rural communities of Halton Hills balance economic prosper- ity with a deep commitment to the natural environment, while retaining viable local agricul- ture and small-town feel, and be- ing socially equitable, culturally vibrant and strongly connected.' Professional Arts Building 99 Sinclair Ave., Suite 210, Georgetown 905-873-6642 Serving the community of Halton Hills and surrounding areas since 1992 distractions while driving The Georgetown You have probably heard recently, that legislation has been passed that will target drivers using cell phones while operating a motor vehicle. We all know that distractions are a dangerous combination and common part of driving on today's congested roadways. Any way to lessen the number of distractions faced daily would greatly help one to focus on the task at hand, and get on with their day. At the Georgetown Hearing Clinic, we do not condone the use of cell phones while driving, but when absolutely necessary, a hands free device, such as a speaker phone, Onstar™ or a bluetooth connected earpiece can be very useful and help reduce distraction - not to mention allow the driver the use of both hands. At The Georgetown Hearing Clinic, we provide a wide variety of custom fit and non custom fit bluetooth hands free devices.
